What does it do? +The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine is a handheld and manual device used by conductors for selling and reloading smart card tickets. It is a part of the TapNGo electronic ticketing system from Transway.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine is able to read the information on the smart card ticket and verify payment for a trip in progress. In addition to verifying the card for a current trip, the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machineis able to load trip contracts, or travel packages, onto a smart card ticket and charge the proper amount for the new package. Together with a mobile printer, the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine is capable of issuing paper tickets as well.
Where is it used? +Handheld devices are convenient for staff on the vehicle to sell tickets to and validate tickets for passengers. This method can be used instead of or in addition to the driver selling tickets. In both cases, the passenger experience is streamlined and quicker, as the driver has either no or less passengers to deal with when ticketing.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 can be used on bus lines and trams.
How does it work? +In order to initiate the route, the conductor places her security card near the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine and after seeing her name, she enters the password. The conductor is required to choose the relevant bus route, and then she can commence selling tickets and validating smart cards.
In the case of a ticket purchase, the passenger pays in cash and the conductor can choose from different passenger type tickets to issue. For example, special fares for children, seniors, students, or physically challenged, or other relevant categories can be used, depending on the policy of the transit authority. The ticket is printed and given to the passenger.
In the case of validation, the passenger places their smart travel card near the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine in order to pay for the current trip. The conductor can choose special fares, such as child fare, senior citizen, student and other relevant categories. If a second passenger wishes to use the same smart travel card, he will need to wait for three (3) seconds in order to avoid double charges.
At the end of the bus route, the conductor can either use her card to set a new route, or if it is the end of a shift, the conductor closes her shift with the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine.
What are its characteristics? +The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine is simple and easy to operate, with a logical user interface and with graphical icons. The system is replete with reports, including beginning and end shift reports, balance of sales, and ticketing and inspector reports.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine is light weight, and can either be hand held or strapped around the neck for convenience. The high quality backlit and color touch screen, coupled with the sturdy and resistant keys makes for an aesthetically pleasing device that is easy to use and long-lasting. The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine also includes navigation keys and an SOS key for emergency messages. The screen is designed such that it can be easily viewed from various angles and in a wide range of lighting situations. The status of the unit is displayed using easy to read graphical icons located on the upper side of the display.
The built in GPS means that the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine is able to deal seamlessly and automatically with multiple tariffs. In other words, since this mobile ticket printer machine knows where the sale is taking place, and where the passenger got onto the vehicle, it is able to deal with flat rate tariffs, zone based tariffs, distance based tariffs, in addition to peak hour, off-peak hour, types of buses (A/C versus no A/C, etc) and other factors that affect the fare price for the passenger. This provides complete and built in flexibility for charging the correct fare.
Short range communication through RF or Bluetooth allows for the Xpedtion Sales 4020 ticket machine to communicate with other machines on the vehicle, such as the Roadzter TIM 7020 ticket machine (Bus Console) and validators.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine has a high level of security for all transactions that includes an advanced encryption mechanism that allows work in several existing standards, such as AES256/3DES/DESx, as well as a unique hardware based security. The unit operator’s smart card enables secure identification of the operator.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine is especially rugged and designed to work over many years and harsh environments, all while maintaining high reliability.
What are the additional options and add-ons? +Printer for printing receipts, paper tickets and reports
What are the benefits? +Mass transit travel is not always consistent. There may be need for more ticket takers on certain lines at certain peak times, and on other lines at others. The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine gives your mass transit system the flexibility to go to where the travelers are.
The built in communications device is an added bonus, which makes ticket issuing even easier for zone based, distance based and other fare methods that your transportation company may use. The device knows what location it is at, so that these fares are given automatically and seamlessly for the conductor.
Real time information and reports can be utilized by operations to make decisions for the field. If additional buses or ticket takers are needed on a particular line, the information garnered from these and other Transway devices and ticket machines can be used to place more conductors, inspectors, or even buses out in the field.
How is it unique? +The data communication using cellular technology allows for the transfer of information at fixed times from the back office to the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine and back. The information includes the uses of smart travel cards, the unit’s operator details, information of new routes and updated fare rates, loading monetary value for the unit operator’s mobile wallet, software updates, lists of rejected cards, and more.
Built in redundancy means that your data is safe and secure, and that you have options as to how data is transferred. The data is transferred through the cellular network, but can also be transferred by the conductor physically taking the unit to the Driver Cashier Station and using a Bluetooth connection to transfer data, which can be used as a backup.
The smart card reader of the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine was designed so passengers can tap the validator, and in addition, the card can be inserted into a built-in slot when longer operations are being executed. This frees the conductor’s hands to perform these actions that may require using the keyboard.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 is flexible, and can be expanded or changed to have additional functionality, such as to be used as an inspector device, or even a stationary Point of Sales ticketing machine.
The unit is built from fiber glass thick plastic and was design to withstand shocks from falls on concrete from a height 1.8 meters.
